Autumn Pub Sing!

Sunday, September 19th, 6:30 to 8pm
Lucky Lab Beer Hall

While trivial pursuit games and spelling bees are gaining popularity as pub entertainments to accompany brew sipping, Revelers have long known and practiced the heartening benefits of community singing. On Sunday, September 19 from 6:30 to 8pm, we’ll be once again gather at the Lucky Lab Beer Hall at 1945 NW Quimby to enjoy camaraderie and song. Pub Sings are family-friendly events, so children are welcome. There will be song leaders and song sheets with lyrics, so everyone will be able to join in the fun. Also, the Lucky Lab will have a variety of sandwiches, brews and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase if you desire. The September pub sing is traditionally a time to sing about the harvest. It takes place near the time of the autumnal equinox, so serves as a reminder that summer is over and the tasks of preparations for winter are at hand.

Autumn Apple Cider-Making Potluck Party

Sunday, October 3 from 2 to 6pm
Hillsboro, Oregon

Every autumn, Portland Revels looks forward to hosting its annual Apple Cider Press & Potluck Party. Based on the country truism that, "many hands make light work" Revels rounds up bushels of apples, sets up presses, and invites friends, neighbors and curious passers-by to come chop a few apples to feed the presses. The fruits of this labor are gallons galore of sweet, fresh apple juice.

This year’s party will be held from 2 to 6pm on Sunday, October 3rd at 175 NE 7th Ave in Hillsboro. We’ll enjoy live music, with members of Bridgetown Morris and Renegade Rose Morris teams entertaining with song and dance. Once the apples are all squeezed, a potluck feast will be laid out and everyone will be invited to fill up their plate. By the end of the party, we anticipate guests will have a gallon of apple juice and a story or two to take home. To join in, bring a labeled jug to collect your share of cider, and your potluck specialty dish to contribute. We’ll be passing a hat to cover the cost of musicians, so plan accordingly.

Reservations aren’t required, but it helps planning to know who is coming, so please give us a call.

Portland Revels CD Release Party

Saturday, October 16th, 6 to 8 pm
TBD

Robert Lockwood, Revels’ Music Director, has worked diligently throughout the spring with our wonderful recording chorus, musicians and sound crew to bring the long-awaited Portland Revels CD recording project to fruition. On Saturday, Oct. 16th, Portland Revels will celebrate with a rootin’ tootin’ CD release party for "The Christmas Revels: Down Through the Winters." Please come join Robert, chorus members, and our musicians to mark the completion of this wonderful project. Copies of the CD will be available for purchase and autographing.

The CD includes a happy tour of Revels favorite music, songs (or arrangements), and poems from our 15 years of shows that have not been previously recorded. Gray Eubank, Dick Lewis, and Luisa Sermol recorded the poems, and early music experts Phil and Gayle Neumann joined with Betsy Branch, Loretta Kelley, Elizabeth Nicholson and Portland Brass Quintet and the full Revels chorus to make a lovely and diverse set of 28 tracks. Songs include "Comes the Morning," "Gaudete!," "Ave Maris Stella," "Calon Lân," "The Bells of the Morning," "The Wexford Carol," "Folkefresar, til Oss Kom" and "Traveller’s Prayer."
